To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2021, we caught up with our apprentices to find out how they are getting on since starting with us at Milexia and what are their goals for the future.
Milly began her level 3 Unified Communications Technician apprenticeship with Milexia in November 2020, working with the Engineering Team.
How did you find out about the apprenticeship at Milexia?
I found out about the apprenticeship at Milexia through an online job search engine.
When did you realise that an apprenticeship is what you wanted to do?
I tried out college previously and found that although it is the right path for some, I preferred more practical training while being able to support myself financially in a way that allows me to keep some free time, unlike going to college and working did.
You have only been with the company for a few months, but so far, how have you found working at Milexia?
They have been wonderful; everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The experiences, opportunities and support I have received so far have been in a league all their own.
What areas are you enjoying the most?
I am especially enjoying the terminal testing as well as the wiring and configuring.
How often do you attend college and what is your course?
The course is online due to the current climate. With a monthly scheduled meeting with my tutor where we go through the work I have submitted or started for the set criteria as well as 20% of my weekly working hours to allow me to complete college work.
How is the balance between working and being at college?
I haven’t found any issues balancing the two mainly because I have gone through an apprenticeship scheme before and am used to the process and time requirements.
Where do you hope to be after completing your apprenticeship?
I hope to stay with Milexia UK and further my learning, either through the higher levels of this course or onto a separate higher learning course.
